How Poland buys defence
Why Poland matters
Poland spends one of the highest shares of GDP on defence in NATO and runs large programmes such as Wisla and Narew air defence, K2 and Abrams tanks, Borsuk infantry fighting vehicles and Orka submarines. Many of these come with offset and local production requirements, which open work for Polish and foreign suppliers.
How Polish buyers publish
Large equipment contracts are often negotiated directly with foreign governments or under the security exemption. Supply, services and maintenance contracts from military units and logistics bases are published as tenders, many on TED. Bids are normally in Polish.
Working with PGZ and primes
Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ) and its subsidiaries take part in most major programmes, so teaming with a PGZ company or with the foreign prime is a common route for suppliers outside Poland.
