Expiring defence contracts that will be recompeted
Expiring defence contracts are awards whose period of performance ends soon, so the buyer will usually tender the work again. We read the end date of every award in our data and list the contracts ending next, with buyer, value and the original award notice, months before the new tender appears.

Why recompetes are the best opportunities
By the time a tender is published, the buyer has usually written the requirement with the help of the companies it talked to during market research. A recompete gives you the months before that: you know the scope from the current contract, the buyer from the award notice and the date from the period of performance.
Use that time to meet the buyer, answer the requests for information, and decide whether to bid as a prime, team with the incumbent or partner with a challenger. Our guide on how to track expiring defence contracts walks through the method step by step.
Questions about recompetes
What is a defence recompete?
A recompete is a new competition for work that is already under contract, run because the current contract is ending. The incumbent usually bids again, which is why early preparation matters.
How accurate are the end dates?
They come from the period of performance in the award record. Options, extensions and bridge contracts can move them, so we show the source notice and update the date when a modification is published.
When should I start preparing?
For a large contract, 12 to 18 months before the end date. Buyers often publish a sources sought notice or an RFI about a year ahead.
Which markets do recompetes cover?
US awards from the federal award data, and UK and European awards from Find a Tender, Contracts Finder and TED award notices.
